In our increasingly digital world, you would be surprised as to how often we still work with good old-fashioned paper documents. Or how often do you receive a digital file, which you have to print, sign, scan and send back as a digital file. What is taking us so long to do it all on our computers, tablets and smartphones? Together with iCapps, Connective is working hard on facilitating this change towards a much more efficient digital transaction management.

Connective is an Antwerp-based technology company that offers digital transaction management solutions for financial and government institutions. That is a mouthful, but simply put there are three key ingredients involved. First of all, they take care of digitizing all of an organization’s documents and data. Secondly, they help them build and manage digital workflows. If a certain document needs to be signed by different parties in a specific order, Connective will automate this process. Finally they ensure that all documents are digitally signed in a legal way without compromising on user experience. For some transactions, like most business agreements, an ‘advanced’ signature is sufficient. For other, like a loan or life insurance, a ‘qualified’ signature is preferable.

Front end development: think like the users

The software does not require a lot of user interface but it is quintessential for the processes to be fine-tuned based on the customer’s way of working. User experience is key in guaranteeing a flawless change management. “iCapps succeeded very well in making the front-end of our software as user-friendly as can be. They really put themselves in the shoes of the employees we are building the software for. Whether it is a financial institution or a police district, all possible workflow scenarios were taken into consideration,” says Eric Bohner, Founder and CEO at Connective.

Next step: enabling mobile document management

The best proof of customer satisfaction is when users start asking for more. This is what happened with Connective’s easy-to-use software, confirms Eric Bohner: “After a while our customers asked about the possibilities on mobile. They wanted to be able to use the digital transaction software on mobile devices as well. We again turned to iCapps to take on this challenge. By building software development kits (SDK) iCapps enabled our customers to easily integrate the digital transaction processes in their mobile apps. This means they can for example use their mobile phones or tablets to sign documents whenever and wherever they are.”

iCapps as part of the team

Connective works with a team of 21 in-house experts, but they truly feel like their team is larger than that. “We work with around 30 people, including all the external specialists. On a yearly basis I would say there are about 5 full-time equivalents from iCapps working in our team. We have a very flat organization, so it is easy for them to be included in the teams. That is also how we work: there’s no need to know and build everything yourself. iCapps, for example, has the perfect experience when it comes to digitization. Whether it is mobile apps or a web interface, they have countless examples to fall back on, and the right mindset. Both our companies want to make sure the customer does not need to bother with techy things.
